Primates As Pets

Here’s an interesting story from the NY Times regarding primates as pets. One thing I learned is that apparently at least one monkey loves his TV.

LIKE many longtime couples, Carlie and Bob, independent animal rescue workers in upstate New York who have been together 21 years, have a difference of opinion about [...]

Puerto Rico Sends Monkeys To Iraq

Puerto Rico is sending monkeys to iraq. They will be going to the Baghdad Zoo. Puerto Rico apparently has a monkey problem since some escaped a research facility (and likely reproduced like we know monkeys are known to do).

Dark Days In Monkey City

Several months ago I mentioned Animal Planet was working on a new show. I got some more info on Dark Days In Monkey City. It looks like it will be airing Tuesday Feb 24 10:00 PM EST / 10:30 PM PST. Here’s a description:

Through a unique combination of live-action and graphic novel-style [...]

About That Guy Attacked By A Chimp

The other day I mentioned that a guy was attacked by a chimp in 2005 and lost his nose and man bits. Well here’s a news story on it with some details and a slightly gory picture (and that’s only his nose).
Chimps are best left to zookeepers who can take care of them properly.

When Chimps Attack

Time.com on when chimps attack:

But adult chimpanzees might be better described as superhuman — a 200-lb. chimpanzee is five to seven times stronger than a person of the same size, especially in the upper body. “They are incredibly powerful, and people underestimate that,” says McCann. “An adult male chimpanzee is a formidable animal. I would [...]

Police Shoot And Kill Chimp After Attack

A chimp apparently being kept as a pet escaped and seriously injured a woman before being shot by police. Travis weighed 200lbs. That’s a lot of chimp to be attacking. Why someone keeps this gigantic animal as a pet is just strange.
Also an interesting tidbit:

In 2005, a different chimp escaped from [...]
